El Remanso Lodge
Deep in the south of Costa Rica, on the wild Osa Peninsula between Puerto Jiménez and Corcovado National Park, lies the El Remanso Lodge - nestled in a private rainforest reserve within the Refugio Nacional Península de Osa. Since its opening in 1999, the lodge has been a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Costa Rica: it was one of the first in the country to generate its electricity completely through its own micro-hydropower plant and was awarded the highest level of the Costa Rican sustainability seal CST for this. The accommodations were built from fallen tropical wood from the lodge's own reserve and are integrated half-open and nature-friendly into the forest. Over 30 employees from the region ensure daily operations - an important building block for the surrounding communities of the Osa Peninsula. Between jungle hikes, waterfalls, and the roaring Pacific right outside the door, the El Remanso Lodge becomes a retreat for all who seek true, untouched nature.
