Casa San Agustin
Behind a whitewashed facade on Calle de la Universidad, in the heart of Cartagena de Indias' old town, lies the Casa San Agustín. Three historic houses have been combined here into a boutique hotel, whose wooden beam ceilings and wall frescoes tell tales from the beginnings in the 17th century. The breeze from the Caribbean Sea sweeps over the whitewashed walls, bringing fresh air into the courtyards. 20 rooms and 11 suites blend colonial substance with modern comfort, without one overshadowing the other. The decor remains traditional and understated, while high-quality linens and carefully selected amenities ensure comfort. The fact that the house is among the Leading Hotels of the World and was awarded a Michelin Key in 2025 underscores this claim.

Rooms
The house offers 20 rooms and 11 stylish suites ranging from 48 to 170 square meters, all featuring wooden beam ceilings and decoration elements in the style of the 17th century. The deluxe rooms are spread over the first three floors and face the garden or patio, some also facing the alleys of the old town. The junior suites provide a separate living area and a sofa bed, making them well-suited for families, while the premium suites offer their own terrace with a jacuzzi. The most spacious accommodations are in the prestige suites and the suite del Virrey, which are designed as maisonettes over two levels.
Culinary
In the center of the house lies the restaurant Alma, where chef Herberto Eljach reinterprets the cuisine of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Land and sea dictate the menu, with local products processed using contemporary techniques; the Ceviche Eljach, an elegant variation of the classic with regional ingredients, is recommended. Lunch and dinner are served from 12 to 11 PM, and since Alma is also open to external guests, you often sit among locals from Cartagena. For an aperitif or the last drink of the evening, the Alma Bar is the right address.
Activities
Within the house itself, you will find the Aurum Spa, named after the Latin word for gold and inspired by the pre-Columbian cultures for whom the sun was a central deity. The hammam cleanses the body in steam and then works with a clarifying scrub made from coffee and volcanic soil, before rituals such as "Time is Gold" or "Treasures of the Sea" follow. Every afternoon at five, tea is served in the library. About an hour outside the city lies Acasí on the island of Barú, the hotel's private beach with its own restaurant and six rustic bungalows. In the old town, the distances are short: You can reach the Museo Naval del Caribe in nine minutes, the Museum of Modern Art in seven minutes on foot, and for the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas or the Monastery of La Popa, the concierge will put together suitable routes.
Location
The luxury hotel is located in the historic heart of Cartagena de Indias, just 700 meters from the popular parks Santo Domingo and San Diego. Rafael Núñez International Airport is conveniently located just 10 kilometers away. The beaches of Bocagrande and Castillo Grande can be reached in around 15 kilometers and invite excursions. Moreover, the fascinating archipelago of the Islas del Rosario is only a 50-minute boat ride from the coast.
