Culinary

The culinary offerings at the lodge pay homage to the treasures of the Amazon and place great emphasis on freshness as well as local identity. Meals are mostly served in buffet form and are characterized by a refined combination of native vegetables, exotic fruits, and traditional Peruvian flavors. A particular highlight is the focus on local ingredients like Brazil nuts, which come straight from the surrounding forest. The open design of the dining area ensures that one remains surrounded by the sounds and sights of the forest even while enjoying the food.

Activities

Around and in the lodge, you can expect a spectrum of over a dozen carefully curated excursions inspired equally by science and adventure. A highlight is the climb up the approximately 40-meter-high canopy tower, which offers spectacular views over the endless treetops - researchers even use mini-drones here as part of the Aerobotany project to study the tree canopies. Those who wish to awaken the researcher in themselves can participate in the 'Discovering New Species' program: 17 insect species have already been discovered and named here by travelers. Night walks reveal a completely new world of glowing eyes and hidden creatures, while boat trips and the camera project AmazonCam guarantee colorful natural spectacles.

Refugio Amazonas is located deep in the southeast of Peru, nestled in a 200-hectare private reserve within the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve. This privileged location on the banks of the Tambopata River serves as a strategic gateway to one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth and is only accessible via a combined land and boat journey from Puerto Maldonado. As the lodge borders directly on the protected primary forest, it becomes a vibrant corridor for wildlife, allowing guests to experience the untouched flora and fauna up close. It is a site that guarantees absolute seclusion while not losing the scientific connection to the outside world.
